About NORTHSTAR

Adventure with purpose.

We create experiences designed for a reset, a realignment or a rite of passage. For teenagers finding their way, adults seeking space, and teams wanting to grow together.

Our why

Connected to everything. Disconnected from ourselves.

We live in a world that keeps us constantly connected, yet increasingly disconnected from ourselves, from one another and from what matters most.

For thousands of years, people have marked life's turning points with a rite of passage: a time to step away, be tested and come back changed.

NORTHSTAR brings that back.

Our mission

To guide people through modern rites of passage that build resilience, character and a clear sense of direction.

Our vision

A world where people know who they are, what they stand for and where they are heading.

Our difference

Purposeful experiences in wild places, crafted with care and led by expert facilitators and qualified outdoor guides.

Our promise

Whoever you are and whatever stage you are at, you will come home stronger, with the confidence to back yourself.

Founder Story

“Every child deserves the chance to build an inner compass, and every adult deserves the space to reconnect with their own.”

For twenty years, I brought people together through experiences, campaigns and partnerships around the world, working with organisations including Flight Centre, Coca-Cola Amatil, Project Worldwide and Tourism Australia.

Adventure has always been part of who I am. I grew up in a family that felt at home in the snow and underwater. I competed as a snowboarder, explored mountains around the world and trained as a paramedic on the side. Now I am a mum of three, and I enjoy sharing that love of adventure with my children.

Some of life’s biggest turning points arrive without invitation. In extraordinary places, alongside inspiring people, I’ve found the courage to challenge myself, grow and embrace new possibilities. Every adventure brings fresh perspective, clarity and the confidence to choose my next chapter, guided by my true north.

That is why I founded NORTHSTAR: to bring people together through adventure with purpose, creating the space to discover what they are capable of.

Jason Sten
Head of Youth Expeditions

Jason brings more than 30 years of leadership experience, a lifelong connection to the outdoors, and a genuine passion for helping people navigate life’s challenges and transitions.

After 32 years in the Australian Defence Force, Jason moved into education, where he now works with young people through outdoor education, leadership development and rites of passage experiences.

He believes that some of life’s most important lessons are learned when we step away from the familiar, embrace uncertainty and reconnect with ourselves, others and the natural world. His approach is grounded in experience, humility, connection and the belief that everyone has the capacity to grow when given the right environment, guidance and support.

Through his work, Jason is passionate about creating experiences that build confidence, strengthen relationships and help people discover a greater sense of identity, belonging and purpose.

For Jason, it’s not about having all the answers. It’s about creating the space for people to find their own direction, supported by others who walk beside them.
